Ambarvalia was the Roman agricultural festival held in honour of Ceres, the goddess of agriculture and grain crops. It was celebrated in May and involved a procession around the fields to purify and bless the crops for a good harvest. As the crops begin to grow in the fields it was important for the Roman farmers to seek divine favour for their fields and crops.
